This series of oil paintings follows a narrative about a water diving circus performer and her troubled relationship with the transient lifestyle of the circus. The work functions as a sort of ars-poetica for trying to fit in, for finding a place in the art world. Heavily influenced by the plight of the bees, one poem corresponds to each work, detailing the stress of moving place to place, searching for a home. Each painting has a coin activated speaker that plays the poem aloud. As the series progresses, the character portraits expand to fill the picture plane, and the surface textures are more full and developed. The female characters are self-portraits. As each poem resonates with my voice, each surface is also my embodied perspective.
